Living Lutheran: Together at the table
Do you have a favorite memory that pops up whenever a certain meal arrives? Many of us have those memories tied to the holidays, family gatherings or monumental occasions that define our lives. In the November issue of Living Lutheran, five readers share their own food-and-faith stories, complete with recipes. The different recipes represent all of us, in all our diversity, coming together at the table. May each inspire you to taste and see God’s goodness in all circumstances, even during a year that sometimes feels like a kitchen catastrophe. Read more here.

ELCA Executive for Administration, Chicago
The ELCA seeks its next Executive for Administration (EA), who will serve as the chief operating officer for the ELCA’s churchwide office located in Chicago. The EA will work closely with the presiding bishop and ELCA staff leaders. Importantly, the EA position presents the unique opportunity to be deeply involved in the redesign of the churchwide leadership structure and to serve as a primary driver of the strategic planning process, including addressing challenges facing congregations such as an aging membership and diversity in membership. To apply, send a current resume and letter of introduction to Kittleman & Associates, LLC, at https://bit.ly/3jHyQuu. For best consideration, interested parties should submit their resume and cover letter as soon as possible.
Hear My Voice: A Prison Prayer Book
In this COVID-time, our opportunities to volunteer and visit with those incarcerated in our local prisons and jails have come to a standstill. But the prison ministries of our congregations need not stop. The ELCA has published a prayer book for God’s people in prison: Hear My Voice: A Prison Prayer Book. This book would make a marvelous Christmas gift not only for people in prison but also for your loved ones and friends. Read more about this resource, and how it has supported prisoners and their loved ones, on the ELCA Worship Blog.
16 Days of Activism
Through its Twitter account, @elcajfw, Justice for Women will participate in the global campaign 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence. The campaign, which runs Nov. 25-Dec. 10, enlists women and organizations worldwide to discourage gender-based violence. The ELCA's social message on gender-based violence, its recent social statement Faith, Sexism, and Justice: A Call to Action and other resources are available here.
Thursdays in Black
In early October, Presiding Bishop Eaton joined other Thursdays in Black Ambassadors from around the world in recommitting to the campaign to end gender-based violence and in mapping the campaign’s future work. Bishop Eaton and National Bishop Susan Johnson of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada have joined together to amplify this call to action in North America with a new video message for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October in the United States, November in Canada). Both bishops continue to urge their churches to spotlight the scourge of domestic violence and other forms of gender-based violence in their communities, especially as reported cases have spiked during the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn more about how to join the campaign here.
