February 2020

Greetings in these last days in the Time after Epiphany.

We are excited to announce the forthcoming release of All Creation Sings, a supplement to Evangelical Lutheran Worship, in fall 2020. This new resource follows more than two years of consideration, preparation and collaboration with Augsburg Fortress and the Worship team in the Office of the Presiding Bishop.

The process included research in collaboration with ELCA Planning, Research and Evaluation; a submissions process for new materials; contributions and insights of working groups for liturgy and hymnody; and a broad liturgical and theological review process.

This supplement stands alongside Evangelical Lutheran Worship and is part of the ongoing renewal of worship in the ELCA. Additional information about the resource and pre-orders is available on the Augsburg Fortress website. Look for more information in coming months.

In Christ’s peace,
Deacon John E. Weit
Assistant to the Presiding Bishop, Executive for Worship

Frequently asked questions

Have you ever wondered?

Knowing the “whys” behind our worship decisions more intentionally grounds worship leaders in their role and helps them to empower the assembly. We feature two reflective, worship-planning-related FAQS this month:

How is worship traditional? How is worship contemporary?

How do we lead worship with grace and confidence?

FAQs
If you would like additional information or do not find the question you need answered, we invite you to contact the worship staff at worship@elca.org.

We enjoy hearing from you! It is a gift for those of us here at Worship to hear about the breadth and depth of worship practices around this church. If your particular context has a story, practice or resource to share with our staff, please send it to worship@elca.org. Although we cannot share everything we receive, we may contact you for further information.

It begins with breath: the breath of an individual, the breath of a community. Singing is natural to creatures, as hymn writer Robert Lowry asks rhetorically, "How can I keep from singing?" In response to God's revelation in Christ by the Spirit's power, we cannot help but sing.
