This fall, commemorate the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall in your congregation or community with a service, prayer vigil or candlelight march. As the Rev. Rafael Malpica Padilla writes in his letter to ELCA congregations, we are “called in this moment to advocate for an end to division and oppression in our own communities and throughout the world.”

The Breaking Down Walls toolkit features an array of resources that you can use in your own service or event, including a special liturgy and stories. Join the call to pray and advocate. Share your prayers on social media with #BreakingDownWalls.

Companion-synod trip to Papua New Guinea
Representatives from the Central States Synod, North/West Lower Michigan Synod, North Carolina Synod and Virginia Synod recently visited Papua New Guinea for a consultation with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea. Each synod is paired with a district in the ELC-PNG in a companion relationship. View pictures from their trip here.

As we bring a close to Always Being Made New: The Campaign for the ELCA, we’re transitioning to new ways of lifting up the ministries of our global companions. We will continue to support the same critical ministries and lift up the stories of global engagement and the work of our companions under the name: “Global Mission.” Starting Oct. 15, you’ll notice that our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages will transition to the new “ELCA Global Mission” name and a new link. Follow us now to keep up with the latest updates! After the transition, you can find us under the name “ELCA Global Mission.” Check back next month for the updated social media links.

YAGM application dates are earlier this year
Interested in applying for a year of service with Young Adults in Global Mission? Applications open early this year. The application window will open Nov. 1, 2019, and close Feb. 15, 2020, with priority given to those who apply by Jan. 15. Spread the word and tell a young adult you know! Learn more at ELCA.org/YAGM.

The ELCA has multiple positions open around the world! Current openings include YAGM country coordinator for Nepal, English-language educators, seminary professors, medical professionals and more. Explore and apply here.

Young Adults in Global Mission endowment fund
In 2018 the ELCA launched an endowment fund to sustain the ministry of the Young Adults in Global Mission program. We are thrilled about this new opportunity to invest in our church’s young leaders as they embark on a year of faith formation, learning and service alongside our global companions. To donate to the fund, visit the Global Mission donation page and select “ELCA Young Adults in Global Mission Endowment” from the drop-down menu.
