Resourceful Servants: Grants for COVID emergencies

God's mission in the world is served when vibrant leaders receive support in their ministry with vital communities. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many congregational leaders used up savings they'd built up or had difficulty making payments on their homes, utilities, transportation or health care needs. These struggles were particularly acute for leaders in under-resourced communities.

To accompany leaders facing these situations, the Resourceful Servants Initiative will offer grants of $1,000 to as many as 200 leaders heavily impacted by the pandemic. This funding may not fully resolve any financial crises, but it may help leaders achieve some stability and engage in ministry for the sake of the world.

Living Lutheran: ELCA gathers to "Embody the Word"

From Aug. 8-12, more than 800 voting members of the ELCA gathered in Columbus, Ohio, for the 2022 Churchwide Assembly under the theme “Embody the Word.” The ELCA also recognized the 35th anniversary of the ELCA constitution. The September issue of Living Lutheran features a roundup of memorials, reports, speeches and important moments from the assembly. You can also learn more about our newly elected vice president, Imran Siddiqui.

Addressing the assembly, Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton said, “If God still has a use for an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America witness to the gospel, then we can't be stopped.”
