Dear friend,
I’m going to be very direct. Right now, the United Nations reports that the world faces a food crisis of unprecedented proportions. Here’s a snapshot of what our neighbors are facing:
- As many as 828 million people around the world go to bed hungry every night, and 49 million people are teetering on the edge of famine.
- Here in the United States, 5 million children live in food-insecure households.
- War, conflict and disaster have forced millions of people around the world to flee their homes.
But you can make a difference. Right now, we need everyone to step up so we can fulfill our commitments to ELCA World Hunger partners before the year ends. Can we count on you to help avert a global hunger crisis?
Through the ministry of ELCA World Hunger, our church walks alongside people as they face these challenges, participating creatively and courageously in the renewing work God is doing. From microloans to water wells, agricultural training to advocacy, ELCA World Hunger projects get at the root causes of hunger and poverty to break the cycle for the long term. This is part of Christ’s call on our church. But to answer, we need you.
Can you make a gift today? Your generosity enables ELCA World Hunger to feed neighbors experiencing hunger every day.
May our blessings this Christmas season be turned into joy for others. Thank you for your generosity,
The Rev. Daniel Rift
Director, ELCA World Hunger and Lutheran Disaster Response Funding
P.S. Gifts by the end of the year—11:59 p.m. Central time on Dec. 31—are tax-deductible for 2022 as allowed by law.
