Beginning July 10, a series of storms dumped record amounts of rain on the northeastern United States, and Vermont was especially hard-hit by catastrophic flooding. Throughout the region, rivers overflowed their banks and water covered roadways, complicating rescue efforts. Many families lost their homes and belongings. Recovery from the flooding is expected to take years.
Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR) is communicating with ELCA synods and community-based organizations in the Northeast as the full extent of the damage is assessed. LDR is committed to providing support for long-term recovery, emotional and spiritual care, and educational training for synods and partners in the region.
Flooding is one of the most common natural disasters in the United States. LDR continues to accompany communities affected by the 2022 Kentucky floods and to reach out to partners around the country as flooding occurs elsewhere.
Gifts to Lutheran Disaster Response designated for “U.S. Flooding" will be used entirely (100%) to assist those affected by floods. Together, we can support those who are on the long road to recovery. Please give today.
