Dear siblings in Christ,
Very few of us answer God’s call to serve for the financial benefit.
Yet many of you have said that financial stress — frequently caused by financial challenges in your congregation, organization or household — can stand in the way of your satisfaction and effectiveness in ministry.
Previous participants in the Resourceful Servants Emergency Savings program — a program of the ELCA churchwide organization and its ministry partners — have seen their individual financial situations improve substantially. After living paycheck to paycheck, many have built up emergency savings accounts worth several months’ income.
What do previous participants say?
- “My perspective on money has become more educated, open and realistic. I have a healthy relationship with money and a budget now.”
- “It has been extremely helpful in providing an avenue to establish a pattern of putting money aside monthly for savings. I am much more aware and intentional about personal financial matters and more focused on financial goals for my future.”
Though many participants said they were more comfortable with their individual finances after participating in the program, they said they needed additional tools to manage the finances of the congregations and organizations they lead.
To support growth in both individual and organizational financial health, Resourceful Servants is launching the Emergency Savings/Congregational Financial Assessment Program.
Through this program you can meet with a certified financial counselor and build your individual financial reserves by contributing to a dedicated savings account, to be matched over a two-year period through generous donations from the ELCA Mission Investment Fund and the Lilly Endowment, Inc.
This program also provides educational resources on a variety of healthy financial practices for your congregation or organization, and an assessment you can use to track your progress.
Find out if you qualify for the Emergency Savings/Congregational Financial Assessment Program by visiting our website, reviewing the introductory booklet and completing the Financial Wellness Assessment. Through the website you can also register to attend an introductory webinar on Aug. 24.
The due date to complete the Financial Wellness Assessment and included program application is Sept. 20. Use the credentials below to log in.
