Advocacy Summer School

Through advocacy, the ELCA community can create lasting, systemic change. If you want to get involved in faith-based advocacy but aren’t sure where to begin, sign up for Advocacy Summer School. This five-part, online series is being offered by ELCA Advocacy in collaboration with ELCA Peace Not Walls. The first session, on Aug. 11, will paint a picture of advocacy and explore how it is shaped by a faith foundation, especially in members and affiliates of the ELCA. Future sessions will cover ways to carry out advocacy work and specific policy issues where the Lutheran community can make an impact. Join one session or all five, and learn how we can lift our voices together to advance the common good.

News Around the World
News Around the World
The COVID-19 pandemic has had severe economic and social impacts on vulnerable communities around the world. This has increased food insecurity in places such as the El Bosque region in Chile. In response, the Educación Popular en Salud (EPES, Popular Education for Health) Foundation initiated a project with community health promoters and nutrition teams to cultivate home gardens. When strict quarantine orders were lifted, program participants decided to create a community garden. In this video, you will hear these women gardeners speak about how they came together to sow hope and cultivate solidarity.

  • Tell Congress to increase funding for medical needs in Palestine. Years of donor funding cuts, followed by the COVID pandemic, have devastated the Palestinian health care system, and the May bombardment of Gaza has only made the situation there more dire. Immediate action is needed to address this crisis. As Congress allocates funds for next year, let your representative know that they must do more for Palestine by increasing humanitarian assistance, pushing for an end to the Gaza blockade and demanding equal access to medical care. Take action here.
  • New missionary service opportunities will be posted later this month. Check the ELCA job board for updates and opportunities.
