Pride Month

“Fearfully and wonderfully proud”

This Pride Month, ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton gives thanks for the blessings of our LGBTQIA+ siblings and prays that we will all have a sense of pride in being part of this fearfully and wonderfully made family. This message reminds us of the beauty of God’s creation and the rich diversity of people, which strengthens our church and our world. May we see the face of Christ in people all around us. Living Lutheran: “Stewardship: A Disciple’s Path”

In many congregations lately, the word “stewardship” has become a way to say “we want your money.” But in Living Lutheran’s June/July lead feature, Robert C. Blezard explores the meaning of stewardship and how being a good steward is “the disciple’s path.” He writes, “The offering prayers we say every week in worship help us understand afresh that stewardship is more than whether we give our money to God’s mission in the world. It’s how we use every good blessing that God has entrusted to us on our journey of faith.” After all, Clarence Stoughton defined stewardship as “everything we do after we say, ‘I believe.’” Download the study guide.

Rev. Megan Rohrer

Megan Rohrer elected bishop of ELCA Sierra Pacific Synod

The Rev. Megan Rohrer was elected bishop of the ELCA Sierra Pacific Synod on May 8, becoming the first transgender bishop in any major U.S. Christian denomination. Aware of the many challenging aspects of the cultural moment the church faces, Rohrer said that Lutherans are called “to do the best we can to live into grace rather than living into fear.”

Learn more about Bishop-elect Rohrer’s journey in an article from Living Lutheran and read the ELCA news story.

Congregations Lead Initiative

The world continues to change and grow more complex. What does this mean for ministry, today and into the future? The Congregations Lead Initiative is a new, two-year program that will gather a cohort of 50 congregations from across the ELCA to unleash and harness their collective genius and discover new and useful ministry innovations. If you’re excited about more new, young, diverse people knowing a life in Christ, then your congregation might be a great candidate to apply for this initiative. Learn more and apply beginning July 8 at ELCA.org/CongregationsLead.
