Literacy Matters
Illiteracy in children and adults can be linked to almost every socioeconomic problem in America, including crime and homelessness. With both of these on the rise in post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans, children still remain at a disadvantage. Louisiana ranks second in the country when it comes to rates of illiteracy. ELCA youth plan to address that by hosting literacy day camps for children living in poverty.
